Josée Kirps appointed president of the International Council on Archives (ICA)

Josée Kirps, Director of the Luxembourg National Archives, has been appointed President of the International Council on Archives (ICA) for the next four years. This nomination will be confirmed by the General Assembly held in Rome in September. Ms. Kirps, who holds a Master's degree in History and a Bachelor's degree in French Literature, has been Director of the National Archives since October 2003 and is also President of the International Association of Francophone Archives.

Long involved in the modernisation of the archival sector at the national level, Ms. Kirps was one of the driving forces behind the development of the Archival Law passed in 2018 that modernises archiving at the national level; thus, she is aware of the challenges facing the sector Ms. Kirps' experience and professional skills convinced ICA members to appoint the Director of the National Archives to the position of President of the Council to continue furthering the transformation of the sector's practices and to imbue the organization with an open-minded approach to ongoing innovations.

Coming from a small country whose strength lies in its ability to collaborate and exchange internationally in a multilingual and multicultural dialogue, her presidency will undoubtedly be of great value to the ICA", says Minister for Culture Sam Tanson and warmly congratulates Ms Josée Kirps on her appointment as President of this prestigious organisation.
