Launch of the call for applications for musical compositions

As part of its public commissioning programme, the Ministry of Culture is launching a call for applications for commissions of musical compositions for seven orchestras or musical ensembles for the 2022/2023 season.

Seven composition commissions will be awarded to Luxembourg or resident composers by the project partners:

  • Kammerata Luxembourg
  • Musique militaire grand-ducale
  • Orchestre de chambre du Luxembourg
  • Orchestre national de jazz
  • Orchestre philharmonique du Luxembourg
  • Solistes européens Luxembourg
  • United Instruments of Lucilin

Interested composers are requested to submit their application to the Ministry of Culture by the 13th of March 2022, indicating the ensemble(s) for which they wish to compose. The applications will be submitted to the concerned orchestras, which will then make their choice from among the applications submitted.

This aids scheme for writing original and new musical works is one of the main axes of public policy in favour of encouraging contemporary creation and has a triple objective:

  • To stimulate the creation of a large number of musical projects and thus contribute to the renewal of repertoires;
  • To support the work of composers;
  • To ensure the diversity of the offer by encouraging musical structures (orchestras, musical ensembles, etc.) to programme works by contemporary Luxembourg composers.

The programme gives composers recognition of their work by the State and supports the efforts of the creation and distribution structures, which present the selected works to the public.

The conditions and criteria of the call can be consulted on the website of the Ministry of Culture.
